What is DC Electric Arc Furnace?

A DC electric arc furnace is an arc furnace that uses direct current as energy. Like an AC electric arc furnace, it generates heat through an arc between the electrode and the charge (or molten pool), thereby achieving the purpose of melting steel or alloys. It can be used to melt steel or alloys as well as non-ferrous metals.


A DC electric arc furnaces is similar to an AC electric arc furnaces, but uses a DC power supply. The current flows between the electrode and the workpiece to form an arc, and the workpiece is melted by the high temperature and melting action of the arc.


Features of DC Electric Arc Furnace

1. Ultra-high power supply: 

DC EAF can provide higher power, which is very beneficial for smelting high-melting-point metals.

2. No grid interference: 

The operation of a DC arc melting furnace will not interfere with the grid, and is suitable for areas with poor grid conditions.

3. Stable high power: 

The entire process uses stable high power, which is conducive to improving production efficiency and product quality.

4. Optimized design & new structure: 

The performance of the EAF is improved by providing an optimized design and new structure of the chemical energy structure.

The Process Flow of DC Electric Melting Furnace:

1. Preparation stage: including furnace body preheating, charge preparation, etc.

2. Charging stage: adding charge into the furnace in a certain proportion.

3. Melting stage: melting charge by high temperature generated by DC arc.

4. Refining stage: refining operations such as deoxidation and desulfurization are carried out in the molten state.

5. Steelmaking stage: extracting refined molten metal from the furnace for casting or other processing.
