Reprinted: Characteristics of DC Submerged Arc Furnace For Smelting
This article is reprinted from Sanrui Electric Furnace's "Characteristics of DC Submerged Arc Furnace For Smelting".
DC submerged arc furnace for smelting is a smelting method that uses direct current to reduce metal or non-metal oxides.
In a DC electric furnace, the magnetic field force generated by the power supply has a stronger stirring ability for the molten pool than an AC electric furnace, which makes the decarburization, dephosphorization and degassing reactions faster and is conducive to operation.
DC submerged arc furnaces are particularly suitable for smelting ferrosilicon, silicon manganese, silicon aluminum and other ferroalloys. They are composed of pre-electrodes, furnace bodies, conductive furnace bottoms and rectifier power supplies.
However, DC SAF also has its disadvantages in submerged arc furnace smelting, especially when high collision temperatures and oxide resistance are required.
Characteristics of DC Submerged Arc Furnace For Smelting
DC submerged arc furnaces is a high-temperature furnace used for smelting metals and alloys. It mainly generates high temperatures through DC arcs and uses the heat of the arc to melt the raw materials.
1. Working principle
- Arc heating: DC current is introduced into the furnace through electrodes to form a high-temperature arc to directly heat the charge.
- Melting process: The temperature in the furnace can reach more than 1500℃, melting the ore or waste and removing impurities.
2. Advantages
- High energy efficiency: Compared with traditional AC furnaces, DC SAFs usually have higher energy utilization.
- Better temperature control: Due to the stable current and small temperature changes, it helps to improve the stability of the smelting process.
- Reduce impurities: DC arc can more effectively remove impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus from ore.
3. Application of DC submerged arc furnaces
- Steel smelting: Widely used in the production of stainless steel, alloy steel and other special steels.
- Precious metal smelting: Direct-current submerged arc furnaces are often used when smelting precious metals such as gold and silver.
4. Precautions
- Equipment investment: Although DC submerged arc furnace for smelting has high operating efficiency, the equipment investment is relatively high and economic benefits need to be considered.
- Safety: Strict safety measures are required to operate high-temperature and high-voltage equipment to prevent accidents.
